Privacy Policy
Last Updated: August 15, 2026
1. Introduction
Kankakee With Kids ("the Platform", "we", "us", or "our") helps community members discover local activities, events, athletics, classes, camps, organizations, and other resources in its community and surrounding areas. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. By using the Platform, you agree to the practices described here.
2. Information We Collect
2.1 Information You Provide
- Account information — name, email address, and password when you create an account.
- Newsletter subscription — your email address when you subscribe to our newsletter.
- Submitted content — event details, organization information, program listings, and other content you contribute, along with contact details you choose to include.
- Correspondence — information you send us when you contact us by email.
2.2 Information Collected Automatically
- Usage information — pages viewed and interactions with listings (for example, which events are viewed most), collected to understand what content is useful to our community.
- Technical information — browser type, device type, and IP address, collected through standard server logs for security and troubleshooting.
- Cookies — we use cookies necessary for the Platform to function, such as keeping you signed in. We do not use third-party advertising cookies.
3. How We Use Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Operate, maintain, and improve the Platform
- Display community content such as events, programs, and organization listings
- Send newsletters and service communications you have requested
- Review and moderate submitted content
- Protect the security and integrity of the Platform
- Comply with legal obligations
4. Social Media
We publish content from the Platform — such as upcoming community events — to our own social media pages (for example, our Facebook Page). This publishing is one-directional: we do not collect personal information about social media users, we do not read comments, messages, or profiles of people who interact with our social media pages through the Platform, and we do not combine social media data with Platform data. Any interaction you have with our social media pages is governed by the privacy policy of that social media service.
5. How We Share Information
We do not sell your personal information. We share information only:
- As part of the service — content you submit for publication (such as an event or organization listing) is displayed publicly by design.
- With service providers — vendors that host our infrastructure and deliver our email (such as cloud hosting and email delivery providers), bound to use the information only to provide those services.
- For legal reasons — when required by law or to protect the rights, safety, or property of the Platform or others.
6. Data Retention
We retain account information while your account is active. Published community content (such as past events) may be retained as part of the historical record of the Platform. Server logs are retained for a limited period for security and troubleshooting.
7. Your Choices and Data Deletion
- Newsletter — every newsletter includes an unsubscribe link, or you can email us to be removed.
- Account and data deletion — to request deletion of your account and associated personal information, email info@kankakeewithkids.com with the subject line "Data Deletion Request" from the email address associated with your account. We will confirm and complete the deletion within 30 days.
- Access and correction — you may request a copy of the personal information we hold about you, or ask us to correct it, using the same contact address.
8. Mobile Apps
Our mobile apps (including the MyTown Direct app and community-branded apps built on the Platform) show the same public community content as the website. The apps do not require an account. Specifically:
- Community code — the MyTown Direct app asks for a community code provided by your town, school, or organization. The code, the email address it was issued to (if any), and the community it opens are stored on your device so the app opens to your community next time. We record when a code is used so the organization that issued it can see that it was.
- Content requests — the app fetches public content (events, programs, weather, and similar) from our servers; those requests carry the app version and the community being viewed, plus the standard technical information described in section 2.2.
- No accounts, no tracking — the apps do not create user accounts, do not use advertising identifiers, and do not include third-party advertising or analytics SDKs.
- Crash reports — if the app crashes, a diagnostic report (device model, OS version, app version, and the error) may be sent to us so we can fix it. It contains no account or contact information.
- Removing app data — deleting the app removes everything it stored on your device. Signing out of a community in the app's Settings clears the stored code.
9. Security
We use industry-standard measures to protect your information, including encrypted connections (HTTPS) and encrypted storage of sensitive credentials. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
10. Children's Privacy
The Platform may provide information about children's and family activities but is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
11. Third-Party Links
Listings on the Platform frequently link to third-party websites (such as event organizers and community organizations). We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those sites.
12. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated policy on this page with a revised "Last Updated" date. Your continued use of the Platform after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
