Class Experience
Ages 18 months–3 years
The years before preschool are some of the most important in a child's development. During this time, children are building the confidence, independence, concentration, and practical skills that become the foundation for future learning.
Montessori Makers is a Montessori-inspired parent and child program designed to gently prepare children for the preschool experience through purposeful play, hands-on exploration, and meaningful real-world activities.
Each class takes place in a thoughtfully prepared environment where children are free to choose from a variety of carefully designed Invitations to Explore. Rather than following teacher-directed crafts or structured lessons, children engage in self-directed experiences that encourage curiosity, creativity, and independent discovery while learning alongside their caregiver.
Our instructor thoughtfully prepares the environment and offers gentle guidance that encourages confidence, problem-solving, and meaningful engagement.
Throughout each class, children naturally develop the foundational skills that support future classroom success:
Independence by making choices, completing activities, and caring for materials.
Practical Life Skills through pouring, scooping, transferring, sorting, cleaning, and other purposeful tasks that build coordination and self-confidence.
Concentration & Focus by engaging deeply with meaningful activities at their own pace.
Fine Motor Development through hands-on experiences that strengthen the muscles needed for writing, dressing, and everyday self-care.
Language Development through conversation, descriptive vocabulary, and meaningful interactions with adults and peers.
Social & Emotional Growth by sharing space, practicing patience, observing others, building friendships, and learning respectful interactions within a small community.
Problem-Solving & Critical Thinking through open-ended materials that invite experimentation, creativity, and discovery.
Rather than focusing on creating a finished project, Montessori Makers values the learning that happens through the process of exploration. Every invitation has been intentionally designed to strengthen the developmental skills children need for future success in the classroom—and in everyday life.
Montessori Makers serves as a natural bridge between Mini Makers, where babies first experience sensory exploration and connection, and our Preschool Transition Program, where children begin attending class independently. Together, these programs create a thoughtful pathway that supports each child's growing confidence, independence, and readiness for our Montessori Preschool and beyond.
